Community Cleanup Set for Spring

The community clean-up will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008--rain or shine-from 8 am until 12 noon (or until dumpsters are full before noon) on the Volunteer Fire Company parking lot. Donations are $4. No refrigerators or air conditioning units--tires off the rim are okay--large pieces must be broken down.

Steel Company Pollution Reporting and Information

To notify the steel company of odors, dust, kisch, or any other issue you wish to call to their attention, the number is 410-388-5000.

 

Community Odors

If a foreign odor is detected, please call MD Dept of the Environment at 410-537-3215 and report your observations immediately.

 

Plant a Tree Program

Get a $10 Tree Coupon to use when purchasing a qualifying tree from a participating nursery and garden center retailer. Go to website: baltimorecountymd.gov for more information.

 

To Report Potholes, Grass Mowing, Litter, Flooding, Etc.

Use the online application at: highways@baltimorecountymd. gov, or phone 410-887-3560, to report the problem.

 

Baltimore County has a debris management plan for all waterways of Baltimore County. If debris of any sort is found near your waterfront property, please call Scott Porter or Candace Croswell, at 410-887-3778, of the Dept of Environmental Protection and Resource Management, and they will be glad to assist you.

 

Baltimore County Dept of Social Services is sponsoring a shelter drill on May 6, 2008, from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Fleming Senior Center, 641 Main Street, Dundalk, Maryland. Volunteers are wanted to participate in the drill as evacuees from a disaster such as a hurricane. A light snack and boxed lunch will be provided.

 

Code Sweep

We have received a letter from Councilman Olsweski, Sr. advising that Baltimore County is continuing to perform code sweeps throughout our district.

 

Traffic Calming

Last month we announced interest in starting a project for traffic calming on Sparrows Point Road and requested someone to volunteer to shepherd the project through all of its facets and culminating with Baltimore County. To date, no one has volunteered for this task.

 

Monument Landscaping

John Young, our treasurer, and his son, have cleaned up the area of landscaping around the monument. Dead tree removal and mulching is scheduled for completion on June 20, 2008, by the SHA. Thank you John and your son, for all your hard work.

 

The Patapsco Back River Tributary Team and Herring Run Watershed Association are sponsoring a wade-in, picnic, and swim at the Rocky Point Park on Sunday, May 18, 2008, from 9:30 am to 2:00 p.m. The swim is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30, and the picnic and exhibits from 11:00 am until 2:00 p.m. The Maryland Port Administration is hosting a boat trip to Hart-Miller's Island (HMI) at 12:45 p.m. If interested, please contact Joe Stewart at 410-767-1355, or e-mail at Jstewart@dot.state.maryland.us.
